What Does This Mean?

déterrage de topic

Brainrot Score: 3.9 ⓘOBSERVED
[ SLANG ][ MULTILINGUAL NATIVE ]

The practice of reviving an old, inactive forum topic with a new reply; the noun phrase for what English calls thread necromancy.

REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE

"Ce déterrage de topic date de 2011, mais la question est toujours d'actualité."

LORE & ORIGIN

French forum phrase pairing the noun « déterrage » (digging up) with « topic » (discussion thread). Observed on Jeuxvideo.com forums, where a 2006 thread mentions a fashion of « déterrage » at the time, and a 2015 reply to a 2003 topic consists of « Déterrage ! » with laughter. The first appearance is unknown. It relates to the existing « déterrage » entry as the fuller form that names the object (the topic), and to the verb entry « déterrer »; it is the French counterpart of thread necromancy and necroposting, though usage can be playful rather than a complaint.
