What Does This Mean?
Derogatory Korean label (Ilbe + 蟲 'bug') for users of the Ilgan Best (일간베스트, 'Ilbe') online community, which Korean press describes as far-right-leaning; sometimes aimed at people merely suspected of being users.
REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE
"A press piece on bug-suffix slang called '일베충' the pattern that '맘충' and '한남충' later copied."
LORE & ORIGIN
Ilbe is short for 일간베스트 저장소, a Korean online community that the press often describes as far-right-leaning (assessments differ). 일베충 adds the insect suffix 충 and, per several articles, is the earliest well-known '○○충' label; a 2016 article said it first appeared in the second half of 2011 and had about 857,750 mentions by then, and it is said to have been followed by 한남충 and 맘충. Critics of the pattern note that it turns a community label into dehumanising language; being called 일베충 can also be a smear against someone only suspected of the affiliation. The origin of the 충 suffix itself is disputed.
