What Does This Mean?
A business practice that profits from customers' lack of information: selling something at a high price that is poor in value or easy to obtain elsewhere, relying on buyers not knowing better. Typical cases named are information products, paid seminars and subscription sales with hidden terms. Also called 情弱ビジネス.
REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE
"A 500,000-yen video course teaching what a free search would show is textbook 情弱商法."
LORE & ORIGIN
Built on 情弱, the short form of 情報弱者 ("information-weak person"), plus 商法 ("sales method"). Japanese consumer and business articles describe typical cases as selling know-how that a little research would turn up, using pressure and scarcity at seminars, and recurring-purchase offers whose terms buyers do not realise. It is an informal label, not a statutory term, and the boundary between a poor deal and a deceptive one varies by writer. The first use is not documented.
