What Does This Mean?
Korean slang for an otaku: someone deeply absorbed in anime, manga, games or another niche hobby. 오덕 is the Korean-style rendering of Japanese オタク (otaku) with the second syllable shortened to 덕, the same 덕 found in 덕후 and 덕질. It can be neutral self-description among fans or a mild jibe, depending on speaker and tone.
REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE
"My cousin is a proper 오덕: every shelf in his room is figures and light novels."
LORE & ORIGIN
From Japanese おたく via the Korean reading 오타쿠, shortened to 오덕; the 덕 element later produced 덕후 (fan) and 덕질 (fan activity). A Pressian article of 2017-09-02 says 오덕후 began on the Korean internet as a phonetic rendering of 오타쿠 coined partly to mock otaku with wordplay, later shortened to 오덕, 더쿠 or 덕후. No dated source found yet for the 오덕 form itself.
