What Does This Mean?

[ SLANG ][ MULTILINGUAL NATIVE ]

鬼女 (onijo) is Japanese internet slang for the users of the 既婚女性板 (married women's board) on 2channel, and by extension for married women posting on anonymous boards. The board's nickname 鬼女板 is the usual form. The label is often used by outsiders and carries a connotation of sharp, relentless posting.

""The 鬼女 board was buzzing yesterday.""

LORE & ORIGIN

A livedoor News explainer of net slang (published 18 August 2010) says the word comes from the 2channel married women's board. The natural abbreviation would have been 既女, but the board was known for harsh posts attacking young, attractive female celebrities, which matched an image of an oni (demon), so 鬼女 stuck. The same article notes later activity such as identifying people involved in online scandals, and presents the board's character as an opinion of the writer.
