What Does This Mean?

スレ立て

Brainrot Score: 3.2 ⓘOBSERVED
[ SLANG ][ MULTILINGUAL NATIVE ]

Creating a new discussion thread on a bulletin board; also the act or the person who does it. Used with する or with the verb 立てる ("to set up a thread"), as in スレを立てる.

REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE

""Nobody had asked about it yet, so he did the スレ立て himself.""

LORE & ORIGIN

A compound of スレ (short for スレッド, thread) and 立て (the noun form of 立てる, "to set up"). Japanese boards describe starting a thread as "setting it up", which is why the verb is 立てる. General reference pages describe threads as the main unit of organization on such boards but do not mention or date this phrase, so no first use is claimed. The thread starter is スレ主 and a follow-up thread is 次スレ, both separate entries.
