What Does This Mean?

[ SLANG ][ MULTILINGUAL NATIVE ]

Korean fandom term meaning to leave a fandom, that is, to stop being a fan of an idol, group or other object of devotion. It is the opposite of 입덕 (entering a fandom) and is used as a verb, as in 탈덕하다.

REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE

"After a decade of following the group, she announced on her blog that she had decided on "탈덕.""

LORE & ORIGIN

Compound of 탈 (to leave, as in 탈퇴) and 덕, the fan element taken from 덕후 (devoted fan). A Korean press article on idol-fan vocabulary and a K-pop fandom glossary both describe it as the opposite of 입덕 and as leaving the fan community. The date of first use is not documented in the sources found.
