What Does This Mean?

[ SLANG ][ MULTILINGUAL NATIVE ]

Korean gaming and comics slang, short for 양민학살 ("massacre of civilians"), for a strong character or player overwhelming much weaker opponents, typically a high-ranked player beating low-ranked or newer players. The word borrows a grim historical term for comic effect and is used for one-sided matches, sometimes critically when veterans do it to newcomers.

REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE

"The streamer's team 양학ed the beginner lobby in under ten minutes."

LORE & ORIGIN

양학 clips 양민학살, whose original meaning was the killing of civilians. A Korean wiki says the word is used in games and comics for a very strong character or player overwhelming or toying with ordinary opponents, usually a top-tier player cutting down low-tier users, and links it to the 스머핑 (smurfing) debate about experts using alternate accounts against newcomers. The page does not date the start of the gaming sense. The existing entries smurfing and smurf-queue cover the related English-language practice.
