What Does This Mean?
Brazilian Portuguese phrase for an exaggeratedly grand return: "comeback" (a return to the spotlight after a period out of view) intensified by "do século" (of the century). It is used jokingly or admiringly for the return of a celebrity, athlete, band, trend or even a person after a long absence.
REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE
""A volta da banda ao palco foi o comeback do século", comemorou um fã."
LORE & ORIGIN
Portuguese Wiktionary defines "comeback" as a return to the main scene after a period of obscurity, from English, and notes the English sense of a quick retort. The Dicio page for "século" does not list "do século" as a set expression, so the intensifier use is not yet documented in dictionaries; no dated first use found yet.
