XBrainrotTHE INTERESTING WAY TO UNDERSTAND INTERNET CULTURE

What Does This Mean?

Anseup

[ SLANG ]

Shorthand for '안구에 습기가 차다' (moisture forming in the eyes), used to describe a situation that is pitiful, tear-jerkingly sad, or cringingly embarrassing; a close cousin of the word 안쓰럽다 (pitiful).

REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE

"She showed up in matching pajamas to the wrong party — anseup."

LORE & ORIGIN

Mainstreamed rather than purely grassroots-coined: comedian/entertainer Ji Sang-ryul said '안구에 습기가 찬다' on a variety show, and internet users abbreviated the phrase to '안습,' which spread widely from around 2008.
