What Does This Mean?
情弱ビジネス (jōjaku bijinesu) is a Japanese label for businesses that target people with limited technical or practical knowledge, for example charging for device setup, app installation or account creation that users could often do themselves with a little research. Selling investment information products to uninformed buyers is also sometimes called this. It is a critical label used by observers, not a term businesses use for themselves.
REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE
""Charging a monthly fee to install a free app is 情弱ビジネス, wrote one reviewer.""
LORE & ORIGIN
Weblio defines 情弱ビジネス (also 情弱向けビジネス, 情報弱者向けビジネス) as a general term for such businesses and gives the setup-fee and investment-information examples. 情弱 is the clipped form of 情報弱者. No dated first use is named. The existing joujaku and joujaku-shoho entries cover the base word and the related 商法; this one is the business-model label.
