What Does This Mean?
サンガツ (sangatsu) is Japanese internet slang for 'thanks', part of なんJ語, the vocabulary of the baseball and general board なんJ. It is a shortening of サンキューガッツ, 'thank you, Guts', where ガッツ is the nickname of former pro baseball player Ogasawara Michihiro. It began as thanks to him and now simply means ありがとう online. Unlike ありがとう, it marks the speaker as familiar with forum slang.
REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE
"「情報サンガツ、助かったわ。」 (Thanks for the info, that helped.)"
LORE & ORIGIN
Oggi (18 February 2020) explains サンガツ as a shortening of サンキューガッツ, originally gratitude to Ogasawara Michihiro and now a general 'thanks'. Harada Eigo's slang dictionary dates the spread of なんJ語 in general to around 2012. No first post of サンガツ itself is documented.
