What Does This Mean?
Korean food-culture meme label for people who dislike mint chocolate, the opposing side to the 민초단 (mint-chocolate fans). The mint-chocolate debate is a light-hearted online argument, and each celebrity's answer to "Do you like mint chocolate?" tends to spark discussion. Food scientists quoted in the press say the split reflects an unfamiliar flavour pairing and differences in taste perception, and that mocking people for their taste is wrong.
REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE
"Everyone at dinner ordered the mint flavor, and the one 반민초 quietly picked vanilla."
LORE & ORIGIN
Kyunghyang Shinmun (2020-12-05) traces 민초단 to online debates over mint chocolate and refers to the other camp as 반(反)민초단 and 민초배척단; it names RM of BTS as a well-known dislike and reports that Instagram mentions of 민초단 rose about fivefold in a year, from roughly 300 in October 2019 to about 1,400 in October 2020. Korean Wikipedia notes that mint chocolate sharply divides tastes and cites a 2020 JoongAng Ilbo piece on the "mint-chocolate war".
