サークルクラッシャー (circle crusher, short form サークラ) is Japanese slang for a member of a club, circle or similar group whose behaviour breaks down the group's relationships. In the original narrower sense it usually means a member, typically a woman, who sparks several romantic entanglements inside the group; in the broader recent sense it can describe anyone self-centred or given to badmouthing others.

REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE

""Relations in that club fell apart because of a circle crusher.""

LORE & ORIGIN

Wikipedia (ja) says the term spread from around 2005, after critic 宇野常寛 and others began using it, without giving an exact first-use date. The same page cites sociologist 堀内翔平, who points out that the label is applied mostly to women and can put the blame on one person, and who suggests treating サークラ as a name for a group process (サークルクラッシュ) rather than a personal trait.
