What Does This Mean?

[ SLANG ][ INTERNET_CULTURE ][ EMOTICON ]

REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE

"Forgot the attachment again... orz"

LORE & ORIGIN

Originated around 2002 on TECHSIDE, a Japanese personal news and community site, where a "cable cover" image was rendered as the kneeling figure "_| ̄|○", later simplified into the typeable alphabetic form "orz." 2channel picked it up and popularized it afterward, but did not originate it. From there it spread to Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China after 2004, becoming pan-Asian internet culture.
