What Does This Mean?

[ SLANG ][ MULTILINGUAL NATIVE ]

Korean slang, from 아이템 (item) and 빨 (effect, credit), for success or strength that comes from good equipment or items rather than personal skill. It began in online games, where strong gear makes a character powerful, and now also covers real-life cases such as one good garment or accessory lifting a whole look. People also use it self-deprecatingly: "이건 템빨이지" ("that is just the gear").

REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE

"He topped the ranking, but everyone said it was 템빨, not skill."
