What Does This Mean?
Korean nickname for the Coffin Dance meme, the video format in which Ghanaian funeral service workers carry a coffin while dancing. The name plays on 방탄소년단 (BTS), turning the dancing pallbearers into a boy-band-style group. In Korea the clip is used as a reaction after a near-accident or a failure. The existing entry 관짝춤 names the dance and the meme format; 관짝소년단 is the group-style nickname for the dancers themselves.
REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE
"아슬아슬하게 사고를 피한 영상 뒤에 관짝소년단 짤이 붙었다."
LORE & ORIGIN
Kyeonggi Ilbo (2020-08-11) explains that the meme comes from Ghanaian funeral videos where undertakers dance with a coffin, a custom of celebrating the deceased's release from suffering, and that Korean users called them 관짝소년단 after BTS. The same article reports that a 2020 school graduation-photo parody of the meme drew criticism as blackface, which made the meme the subject of public debate.
